Senior Project

Senior Project Brief Overview. Scroll down to view the Senior Project Booklet.

Senior Project is a four-part endeavor on which our seniors work all year. The four parts are: (1) The project—something that is a stretch or challenge for each individual student and which will take him or her at least 15 hours outside of the school day to complete. ( We have students doing everything from learning to quilt and making quilts of their family history to organizing a countywide coalition of student leaders at seven area high schools to put on a show in the PAC celebrating Filipino culture ); (2) The paper—an MLA style research paper on a topic related to the project; (3) The portfolio—a collection of documentation which shows the process used and time spent completing the project; and (4) The presentation—a 10 minute speech with 5 minutes Q & A presented to a board comprised of teachers, parents, district office officials, community business leaders, etc.

How is Senior Project graded?

The project is factored into each student's English grade.  The paper is 25% of the first session English grade and the portfolio and the presentation together are 15% of the second session English grade.

Who should I contact if I have more questions about senior project?   Marla Magsig and Kristina Richardson are the teachers who oversee the senior project.

When are Senior Boards and how can I volunteer to be a judge?

Senior Boards, the presentation component, will be held on May 10 and 11, 2011 (dates are subject to change) at Sheldon High School. These two days are minimum days and school will get out at 12:30.  Board presentations will probably run from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM each day. We need approximately 170 adults each day to make up the Boards. All teachers will be expected to participate as it’s within the contracted work day.  We also have parent volunteer coordinators recruiting parents, if interested in helping please email Diane Hicks - dhicks@egusd.net. Service organizations and the district office are being contacted to ask for their assistance. And, finally, because we would like to include as many volunteers who are not formally associated with the school as possible, we appeal to you to talk to your friends, neighbors, and husbands/wives/significant others to ask them to join us for one or both of the days. Please forward names, addresses, phone numbers, email address, etc. and which day or days you would be willing to serve to our parent coordinator.
